The landscape is scattered with glaciers, mountains and craters. We spend the night at the rustic mountain hut of Hveravellir. The hut is uniquely situated next to a hot spring. Here we can relax in the evening in the warm water surrounded by snow. So far away from civilization we have good chances of seeing the Northern lights. Backup plan: In case of bad weather conditions we have the self drive super jeeps to our hand and are so flexible with our entire program. This is a perfect backup option.
Remarks: The hut in Kerlingarfjöll is a very simple hut not to compare with huts in the Alps. It will give us a warm place overnight. There is no running water. Water has to be collected from snow and boiled. During winter a simple toilet is on place. There are no showers. The hot spring provides a perfect opportunity to warm up and relax.
Day 3: Highland encounter on snowmobiles / Hveravellir
